Biotin is a potential interferent with immunoassays and competetitve assays being positively interfered and sandwich assays being negatively interfered. Immunoassay platforms utilising streptavidin biotin complexes are bound to such interferences. Hence, selection and verification of immunoassay method has become an essential requirement for the users. Our case scenario discusses the influence of biotin on HIV assay in two platforms, one utilising the streptavidin biotin design and the other without it.
